1. Consultation and mapping. Your provider takes a medical history, then watches your face at rest and in motion. The plan is built around how your muscles actually move, not a standard pattern.
2. A conversation about duration. If you have used a toxin before, what worked and what wore off too fast shapes both the product choice and the dose.

3. Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and alcohol for the rest of the day. Heat and elevated blood flow worsen swelling and bruising.
4. Expect small raised bumps that settle within about half an hour, and possible pinpoint marks that fade over a few days.

• Pinpoint bleeding, redness or small raised bumps at the injection sites, usually settling within half an hour.

• A temporary sense of tightness or heaviness as the muscles relax.

• Any difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, including hoarseness or slurred speech. Seek emergency care immediately.
• Generalized muscle weakness, or weakness spreading beyond the treated area.
• Vision changes such as double or blurred vision, or a drooping eyelid that interferes with sight.
• Loss of bladder control, which is named in the boxed warning as a sign of distant spread.
• Signs of an allergic reaction: rash or hives, wheezing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
• Signs of infection at an injection site — spreading redness, warmth, increasing pain, pus or fever.

• Eyelid drooping (ptosis) or an unintended change in brow position, caused by the product affecting a muscle it was not meant to reach. It is temporary, but with a longer-acting product it can take longer to resolve.
• Asymmetry — one brow higher than the other, or an unevenly peaked brow. Often correctable with a small adjustment at the two-week mark.
• Headache severe enough to need treatment, reported in the clinical trials.
• Dry eye, blurred vision or eye irritation when the area around the eyes is treated.
• Facial weakness or an altered smile if the product affects nearby muscles.
• Allergic reactions, including rash, hives, wheezing and, rarely, anaphylaxis.
• Distant spread of toxin effect. Every botulinum toxin product, Daxxify included, carries an FDA boxed warning that effects may spread from the injection site, causing generalized weakness, double or blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, loss of bladder control, or difficulty swallowing or breathing. Symptoms have occurred hours to weeks after injection, and swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life-threatening. The risk is greatest at the far higher doses used for medical conditions, but it is a real, formally warned-about risk in cosmetic use too, and any such symptom is a medical emergency.

For most people there is no meaningful downtime. You can return to work immediately, provided you stay upright for around four hours and avoid touching the area for 24 hours.

What takes patience is the result itself: up to two weeks to see where you have landed. With a longer-acting product that patience matters more, since both the result and any imperfection in it stay with you longer.
